Every Sunday, Akihabara's main street, Chuo Street, becomes a pedestrian mall for people to enjoy walking around. It is open from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (from January to March: 5:00 p.m.), and is suspended during rainy weather. Not only is it easy to shop here, but it is also easier to see the electronic district, so it ends up being a great place to take some pictures.

Akihabara is filled with cafes like this, where staff are dressed in maid costumes and refer to customers as "master". Among these is Maid Cafe Maidreamin Akihabara the Main Store, which is part of a cafe chain that has drummed up enough popularity in and out of Japan that it has been able to expand overseas. Even first-timers can relax and enjoy the cafe. All things in the menu come with a magic good luck charm cast by the maids.

In Japan you can buy unusual drinks from vending machines like a sweet red-bean soup made from adzuki beans, and corn soup. Among these, the most unusual and the most popular in Akihabara is canned oden. Oden, which is a dish made by cooking vegetables and fish dumplings in dashi (Japanese soup stock), can be bought from the vending machine in the Chichibu Electronics building.

From current manga and anime-related products to nostalgic toys and anime goods, this store is filled with products revolving around manga culture.

The first eight floors of this building are devoted to the largest Mandarake out of all the Mandarake stores in Japan around. There are staff who can speak English, Chinese, or Korean, depending on the floor. Try searching for treasures here which can only be found in Japan.

If you're looking for items like figurines and robots, then you might want to go to Volks Akihabara Hobby Paradise. From its 1st floor basement to the 7th floor, this store gathers all types of figurine-related items, including complete figurines. These figurines are so elaborately made that even die-hard enthusiasts can be satisfied here.

In survival games, nicknamed saba-ge, players are split into enemies and allies, where they use airsoft guns, wear combat suits, and engage in a gun battle. At this place, you can rent all the necessary equipment, and beginners and women are welcome. The playing field looks like an abandoned building in a forest, and you can freely enjoy the game since it is done indoors.

The main store of Gamers, an anime shop which operates nationwide, can be found here. This store reaches up to the 8th floor, and every floor has a wide array of products related to anime and gaming.

There is also a museum, which displays original key frames of anime and holds many events. They have a large collection of anime on DVD and Blu-ray, so try to find your favorite for a souvenir.

This shopping spot called mAAch ecute Kanda Manseibashi makes use of Manseibashi Bridge, which was built in 1912. Taking advantage of the quaint atmosphere brought to life by the bricks and arches of the bridge, a lot of shops gather here like general stores, restaurants, and craft beer stores, among others. There are also a multitude of Japanese goods and sweets stores, so you might want to go here if you're looking for a souvenir.

Akihabara is dotted with game centers big and small, but the one that we love the most is GiGO Akihabara 1 (formerly Club Sega’s Akihabara Building No. 1). It is wonderfully spacious and not as crammed as what you might be used to or imagine, so this is the perfect spot for both gamers and the curious.

Floors one to three are all filled with various crane games, and a hard-earned prize might just be the perfect souvenir to take home from Akihabara Tokyo. The upper floors are home to various video games, from fighting to shooting, from action to sports. In theory, you could easily spend an entire fun-filled day at GiGO Akihabara 1!
